Homeschooling Resource Lists

I tend to look for the most frugal options when planning lessons (as a teacher and homeschooling mom) because I know every dollar adds up. Below I have listed some of my favorite online resources that are free or very worth the monthly fee for the service provided.

My Favorite Websites:

ELA

Spelling Worksheet Creator (FREE) – Enter your list of spelling words and create over 15 practice sheets with font choices. I used this weekly throughout elementary years to customize spelling practice for whatever needs I saw in phonics, commonly misspelled words, or other categories (months, holiday words, etc.). There are also several other worksheet generators available in other subjects in the sidebar.

Handwriting Practice Worksheet Maker (FREE) – Choose print or cursive then customize with your text and select from dotted, solid, or outlined letters as well as changing the size of the lines and other page format details. Let handwriting practice double with memorization of Bible verse, historical quotes, or key facts in other subjects!

IXL (monthly fee) – IXL has a HUGE bank of practice on all the ELA skills and you can sort by grade level or skill. There are also extra games for practice on basic skills. This site never runs out of practice problems on whatever skill you need. This was one of my favorite sites as a teacher and homeschool mom. The family plan (starting at $9.95/mo) can also include Science, History, Spanish, and Test Prep.

MATH

IXL (monthly fee) – IXL has a HUGE bank of practice on all the Math skills and you can sort by grade level or skill. Most skills have an example video and anything you miss has a detailed explanation (reteaching built-in). This site never runs out of practice problems on whatever skill you need and covers ALL the math subjects. This was one of my most used sites as a teacher. As a homeschooling mom, you can work with them or give them space for independent practice here.

Khan Academy (FREE) – I think of this as a math site because it started out as just math but has science, language arts, social studies and more. Find a video and practice on ANY skill. It would be possible to use this for your main math curriculum as it has sequenced skills and lessons for every year of schooling plus is a great college math resource as well. You can access everything without logging in but creating an account allows you to save progress and know what lessons have been completed (all free – donation based).

Math Aids (FREE) – This site allows you to create math practice sheets on a variety of topics from elementary to high school skills. There are lots of great math categories to customize supplemental practice for your child. The Multiplication Target Circles have been one of my “go-to’s” this year.

Math Drills (FREE) – This site specializes in multiple variations of practice on any math skill that needs practice. Never run out of supplemental practice here and it is all free. They also have seasonal theme math worksheets. Check it out for anything from early elementary fact practice to Pre-Algebra.
